Medicinally important forest tree species: Oroxylum indicum

Nature is endowed with rich and diverse forest resources . The forests are store house of medicinal plants with diverse medicinal properties. Oroxylum indicum is a valuable medicinal tree species of immense importance. In order to meet the increasing market demands, over exploitation of the tree as a whole has created the danger of extinction of this valuable tree species. Large scale plantation of this tree is the need of the hour to protect this tree from further extinction. There are various factors effecting the germination of O. indicum. The tree is sparsely distributed in nature and pollination is naturally carried by bat species. Seed abortion and fungal decay may be the factors affecting the germination percentage. The conservation of the tree is must and on this aspect an experiment was performed to see the effect of different seed sources and habitats. The following paper discusses how seed source and habitat variation affect seed germination in O. indicum. Please go through the article. Any suggestion and feedback are welcome.
